On July 16th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm, the Community Engagement Task Force is throwing a party to celebrate the 203rd birthday of Harley Hopkins. This event will be held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts Community Room, which is located upstairs above the lower gallery.  Signs will be posted to help find the room. Elevator access is available.

Raspberry treats, bracelet-making, games, and more family friendly fun will be available at no cost. Everyone is encouraged to join in on the celebration to meet new neighbors, enjoy community activities, and learn more about Hopkins history!

Mr. Harley Hopkins came to this area in 1854 and settled property which currently includes Highway 169 and Excelsior Boulevard. In 1871, Hopkins donated a portion of his property to the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad on the condition he and his wife could have free transportation, and that the name on the depot would be 'Hopkins.' After, Hopkins served as the Postmaster of the Post Office located at that depot. West Minneapolis soon became known as 'Hopkins' because the Post Office and depot shared that name. In 1928, West Minneapolis officially became the Village of Hopkins and in 1948, the City of Hopkins.

This event is sponsored by the Community Engagement Task Force. The Task Force is a group of residents creating opportunities for neighbors to connect with each other. We hope you can join us in this celebration of community!
